Next Stop: Election

The big day is fast approaching, so I thought I might recap what we've seen so far. It has been a big few weeks. We have an official constitution now. We're officially allies with China, Australia and Haiti. A boatload of new citizens came in. We're all excited, and I for one am pumped to have an official leader. Let's see who's still in the running (alphabetically, because I'm an impartial reporter).

Beyon, Woongseup: Right Place, Right Time

Official Quote: "You know, I just, my name is Beyon; like Beyonce. And [she's so] sexy, and I am a sexy. It's [like] she said, 'Everyone is supposed to be the same'. So if you vote for her you vote for me. And you."

Despite all predictions to the contrary, Woongseup Beyon is still a major contender in this race. The consensus on the island is, while nobody knows exactly what he's saying, he somehow manages to say the right thing. Also, a vote for him is a vote for soju? He just wandered by my office, like, two seconds ago and told me to remember that.

Trying to take him seriously for a moment: I guess there are worse things than to be lead by a man with a charmed life. He's also multi-lingual, very charismatic and has a knack for finding out information without ever really trying; knowledge is power.

De Leon, Maria: The Reluctant Candidate

Official Quote: "I mean, that's sweet, but, I don't think I'd really have time."

Despite her many assertions that she has no desire to lead E.I., people are clamoring to support her.

Let's look at the facts: She (aside from Earl) is probably the most highly educated person on the island. The tainted population of the island love her. She's genuinely compassionate and it doesn't hurt that she's beautiful. Lastly, lets not forget that she's a natural leader. Since her arrival at Sanctuary, everyone has looked at her as the de facto leader when the Alpha Team (The Conductors?) is out on a mission.

Horn: Horn, Able --> Ammon Hadad : It's Complicated

Official Quote: "I excel in more of an administrative capacity, but looking at everybody's background I believe Mr. Haddad is the optimal candidate." - Abe Horn

Official Quote 2: "I have led men before. If you are willing to follow, I am willing to lead." - Ammon Hadad

You might not know Mr. Hadad. He came up with the Alpha Team from the inner earth. He was the tribal leader of a group of nomads who currently live outside of Sanctuary proper. If this guy came out of nowhere, how is he such a contender? Well, the general consensus is: if Abe thinks he can do it, that's good enough for me. Having spoken with the man a few times, I can tell you he's shrewd and pragmatic, even if he doesn't have charisma of some of the other candidates, something about him just commands respect.

Matriarch of the Goring-Three-Horns Tribe: The Conservative Party Candidate

Official Quote: "Voting is silly. These things should be handled in trials by combat."

This lovely young lady comes to us from the hollow earth as well. If nothing else she has the experience for the job, having led her tribe for at least eighty years. She's no-nonsense and possesses an undeniable sass.

Some say her only supporters are the ones she has intimidated into promising they would vote for her, but one could do worse than a president whom all the other countries is afraid to mess with.

Mechanatrix, The: The Robot's Choice

Official Quote: "After all, I am the logical choice."

If you haven't gotten a chance to talk to the Mechanatrix, you should. After all, she's right there. Seriously. If you're reading this, she's watching you read it. Don't judge. It's her island (Or is it Earl's? It's confusing). Anyway, she's a surprisingly socially liberal candidate, believing everyone (robots included) deserve the right to thrive and be happy. Once I got past my very human fear that she would turn out to be a scary robot overlord, I actually found her genuinely caring. She sees the plights of a fledgling nation (not to mention Novas) as similar to the war she's been fighting for robot rights since the 1920's.
Why thank you, Benjamin. I find your company pleasant as well.

^I didn't write that! But trust me, it's not as creepy as it seems. You get used to it.

Finally: Michael Magnum?

Official Quote: "Yeah, right, I'm running for president."

Lastly, we come to the issue everyone has been talking about: Is Michael Magnum's bid for the presidency real? The rest of the Alpha Team has recused themselves from the election, and made sure we'd scheduled the actual vote for a time when they're in the United States in front of Congress.

However, every time we approach Michael with the question, we get that same half-hungover, half-ironic smile and a roll of the eyes. I am a professional journalist (You're a Blogger, Benjamin, and collect no currency for writing this). Yeah Well. I lost my train of thought. But, is he running or isn't he? Your guess is as good as mine.

The most important thing is, Kids: Go out and vote! Good luck and may the best man woman sentient being win.
